Fishing

My dad loves to fish and he suggested that I try fishing in the Marshall islands with its ocean full of fish. We finally went during the last month (may).  Chinilla's husband took his family boat out and we went fishing.  It was my first time fishing, so I was excited.

Launching the boat

Trying to be Marshallese haha

My other half

We drove the boat out to the middle of the lagoon, chopped up some fish to throw in the water to draw fish to our area.

Chopping up fish

We didn't get any bites so we drove the boat to another location.

First fish that we caught.  I have no idea why my face is like that lol

We didn't catch that fish... It was big and had human-like teeth!

Waiting for fish.  We didn't use a pole, we used a fishing string with a weight on bottom of it.  We hooked calamari on the hook and let it drop to the bottom of the reef.  When we felt a tug, we had to lift it quickly so the hook would go into the fish's mouth and wind the string up.

Hooking the calamari

You can see the fish in the water.  That's how clear it is.

Finally caught the brightly colored fish. They would swim around the hook but not eat it.  It was so frustrating

Going back home. See the two men behind us haha

Our catch.. I didn't get any :-(. We got 6 fish.  It as so much fun although I didn't get any fish.

In the past, I refused to touch any seafood.  We bought a case of frozen calamari and I had no problem cutting it up and hooking it. I also chopped up the fish and threw it in the water.  It's amazing what a year does to you.
